The West Virginia Supreme Court has confirmed a jury verdict of nearly $17 million for a woman who was injured when Walmart employees were working on capturing a shoplifter at the store.
Walmart appealed, however, the court rejected it.
One of the lawyers for the plaintiff pointed out that employees were trying to stop a shoplifter when the suspect ran into Ankrom’s shopping cart, which was holding her granddaughter. Ankrom fell on the pavement with the cart falling on top of her body.
Ankrom’s unfortunately required several surgeries and has signed into the hospital over 20 times throughout the year.
