The University of Michigan has reached a $9.25 million settlement with eight women who were sexually harassed by the former provost and chief academic officer at the school, Martin Philbert.
The names of the eight women were not released. Interestingly enough, the settlement did not include Philbert himself, and therefore the women could still file a lawsuit against him.
Philbert was the second-highest administrator at the U-Michigan and had a long history of sexually harassing female employees. he also had sexual relationships, including in university offices.
In March 2020, he was fired from his position as provost. He also relinquished his faculty tenure rights in June. Philbert’s last day at the university was June 30.
